York South-Weston Says Rebuild York Memorial!

Whereas, York Memorial Collegiate Institute in York South-Weston, Toronto, Ontario has been destroyed by a fire

Whereas, the fire was not sufficiently extinguished when first engaged causing significant damage to the school

Whereas, York Memorial Collegiate Institute is a monument built by Canadians that fought in World War I and their family members​

Whereas, the official report on the fire from the Ontario Fire Marshall still has not been released publicly​

Whereas, York Memorial Collegiate Institute has not been designated a heritage site to be protected​

We the undersigned call for:​
1. An immediate unredacted release of the full Ontario Fire Marshall report​
2. An official heritage designation for the York Memorial Collegiate Institute site so as to be protected by law

3. A commitment to provide the necessary funding to rebuild York Memorial Collegiate Institute at its original site as a functioning school serving York South-Weston
